Sites like Twitter and Facebook can be used to give a second life to your old posts. Thanks to the scheduling feature. You can actually schedule all your old blog posts for as long as you like. Facebook has this feature inbuilt but for Twitter, you will need to use external services like tweepsmap.
There is news that twitter has now got the feature, but at the time of writing this post, I couldn't figure that out. Even after following a couple of tutorials. My guess is the feature might be available only to users who run ads on the platform.
2. Email
If you have an email list, you should send out your old blog posts. Like post scheduling in Facebook, if you are using an autoresponder like Getresponse and Awaber, you can schedule your emails to be automatically sent in future.
The truth is people can read the same article twice or even trice so don't mind even if you previously sent the articles to them. Remember some readers may not have opened their mails. Additionally, you can do roundup emails where you put a week or months top posts together,then email them to your subscribers.
3. Internal linking
While writing new posts link back to your old posts. This is actually one easy way you can use to start promoting your old posts.
As I mentioned earlier, if you are not running a news site, you should concentrate on developing articles that are not time sensitive. Depending on your audience, recycling those old blog posts can get you thousands of visitors.
