Lisa SicardLisa Sicard is a content marketing manager, social media manager and consultant at Inspire To Thrive. She helps others to thrive online through social media, blogging and SEO.

Question: Where are you from?

Answer: I am from Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States. It is on the East Coast about 50 miles from Boston, Massachusetts. I was born in Warwick and live in Scituate, Rhode Island. I have lived here my whole life and grew up in West Warwick. We have 4 seasons here on the East Coast.

Question: Okay, that's awesome. How long have you been freelancing?

Answer: I have been freelancing for about 10 years now. I started an online store selling medical scrubs. I made my biggest sale via a tweet and never stopped tweeting. People began to ask how I did so I formed a blog – Inspire To Thrive. Years later I began getting paid to blog and managing social media for accounts I had in my former day job.

Question: Which is your favorite place to get freelance jobs?

Answer: By referrals. I have received most of my work via referrals. I also am being recognized online as I write more and my social profiles are getting seen by others.

Sometimes I do get work from sites like Seeding Up and Sponsored Posts. People have been coming to me so I haven't had to push myself out there. But it took TIME.

Question: Do you sometimes feel down, and unproductive? If you do, what do you think are the main causes in your case?

Answer: Yes, on occasion that does happen. There have been a few weeks where no new work came in. I went to visit past local clients and picked up new business. I wrote more, took classes like Twitter Flight School to be more educated and have badges and certificates so folks will understand I do know my stuff. I'm currently taking a FB class to become certified there as well.

I also have attended networking events where I learn more and meet more people. You always have to keep your pipeline flowing!

Question: I like that; “You always have to keep your pipeline flowing!” So what do you do get motivated again?

Answer: To get motivated again I love to go for walks or take a shower. In both cases I usually think of new ideas and get excited to get back on the computer and implement them.

Sometimes even driving gives me thoughts with some new ideas.

Oftentimes, reading online is way to learn more and expand my own ideas.

Question: Which motivational speakers do you listen to?

Answer: I love Neil Patel, Katie Lance, Ted Rubin, Josh Elledge, Neal Schaffer, Kim Garst and Tiny Buddha. They are all unique in their ways but each gives me motivation and tips that I can use instantly.

There are so many out there to watch and listen to. I love reading quotes from them as well to motivate me.

Question: What advice would you give to the new freelancer just starting?

Answer: Stick with it! I have seen too many people give up before they reached success. They quit too early.

Network with as many people as you can. Don't be spammy and form real relationships. Do your best work and don't be afraid to hit the publish button. If you make a mistake you can always EDIT it online.

Last, promote your own stuff. That's something I haven't done enough of over the years. Show your face and promote yourself 20% of the time. 80% of the time share others stuff and great tips to your audience.
