Priya Florence Shah is the Founder & CEO of BlogBrandz Digital LLP, a digital marketing agency in Pune, India, and a well-known social media expert and digital marketing expert and consultant

Vince: Where are you from?

Florence: I'm from India. I used to live in Mumbai but moved to Pune around 7 or 8 years ago. I started my online publishing career in 2001 and started blogging in 2003. When blogging made publishing accessible to the masses, I realized that it was going to become a very powerful medium someday.

Vince: So how long have you been freelancing?

Florence: I've been freelancing since 2004, first as a content writer and blogger and then as a social media marketer. I founded Blog Brandz in 2014 because I realized that even as a freelancer, it is important to brand yourself so you can stand out in a crowded marketplace and differentiate your services from other freelancers or solopreneurs.

Vince: Which is your favorite place to get freelance jobs?

Florence: I don't scout for freelance jobs any more. Now my clients come to me because I've established a brand and a reputation as an expert authority in my field. I regularly get clients connecting with me via my website and LinkedIn. And I prefer it that way because it filters out the freebie hunters and lookie loos.

Vince: That's awesome. I think that is where every freelancer wants to be. And there is nothing better than clients coming to you.

So, tell me; do you sometimes feel down, and unproductive?

FlorenceNot really.

Vince: Really?

Florence: Yeah, I love my work and am obsessed with it, so I work every waking moment. There have been points in my life when I've binge-watched shows on Netflix, but even when I'm taking a break to watch a movie or show, it's because it's well-deserved and because I've worked hard before that.

Vince: Wow, that's awesome. I love what I do but there are times I catch myself really unproductive. What keeps you pumped up?

FlorenceI'm pretty self-motivated so it doesn't take much. I listen to some of my mentors' videos and that's enough to get me inspired and raring to go. Also, there's always some email to respond to, some blog post to publish. There's no time to sit and mope. Which is good, because that's not my thing anyway.

Vince: Which motivational speakers do you listen to?

FlorenceI love my Sifu, Dan Lok. I watch his videos every day. I like T. Harv Eker too and I have an Indian mentor called Sidz, who is very good at what he does. It's also fun to watch Marie Forleo and I'm always doing courses, watching webinars, videos, and reading blogs and books for new ideas.

Vince: “Boss In the Bentley” I'm a follower too. I like his videos especially the sales tips. They're so practical.

As we wrap this up, what advice would you give to the new freelancer just starting?

FlorenceI would say, your success is 80% mindset and 20% skill! Focus on self-improvement and personal development. With the right mindset, you will succeed no matter what you do. If you don't have the right mindset… if you don't take responsibility for everything you create in your life, learn to recognize your patterns and your blocks, and change them, you'll struggle. As one of my mentors says, your business will only grow to the extent that YOU do. Also, you need to learn a high-income skill, provide value to your clients and customers, and learn to leverage your time and money to grow your business.

Closing:

Thank you so much Priya Florence Shah for your time and sharing with me.

  1. Mindset is huge Priya. Agreed 100% on that one. I see it more daily; we are playing an energy game. Be generous, nudge into fear, be present, open more income streams, and see the journey through. I recall going for months on end between sponsored post and ad pitches. I just received 2 from the last time I checked my email. Persistent generosity wins. Fab interview Vince and Priya.
